Patricia Brown
Patty was a sister to 11 siblings. She was an attorney, taught legal classes at MATC, and was a partner in another business. She was an aunt, a bonus mom to 2 step children, a dog mom of 2, and a friend to so many. She was born with a heart defect and had open heart surgery when she was 7. She did great for 40 years, then needed a valve replacement. She came that surgery like a rockstar, and the 6 months later climbed 94 flights of stairs at the US Bank building the following Spring. In 2018, after a blood clot went to her brain stem, she was diagnosed with locked-in syndrome. Her intelligence and memories were all intact - she could hear and understand everything going on around her, but her only way to communicate was to wiggle the last 2 toes on her right foot. When I asked if she wanted to live that way-on a ventilator, unable to move or see, tube fed, she didn’t wiggle her toes. When I asked if she wanted us to remove life support, she wiggled her toes. When I asked if she wanted to donate her organs, she wiggled her toes. We stayed with her in the OR until she took her last breath. Her memory will live on forever ❤️
